This weekend, Mr. Welker and Ms. Jacobs traveled with  50 musicians to New Jersey and New York City. The trip included a zero visibility trip to the Top of the Rock observation deck where they saw many clouds, an incredible lunch in Little Italy, and the chance to see a performance of Stomp!  However, the highlight of the trip was their time at Six Flags Great Adventure.  They participated in a competition called Music in the Parks, which they have attended before at other theme parks.  With both an instrumental and choral ensemble, our students represented LRHS with pride.

The Music in the Parks experience always ends with an Awards Ceremony, which is the best part (well, after the rollercoaster part)!  Loch Raven walked away with a lot of trophies!  Chorale earned 3rd place in their division and the Full Orchestra earned 1st place in their division, as well as the Overall Orchestra award for all the orchestra divisions.  In addition, our own Kayla Torbit was awarded the Overall Vocal Soloist award out of all the soloists who performed!

While these awards are great, Welker and Jacobs agree that they are the least important thing to win.  The final award of the ceremony is the Esprit de Corps award, which is given out to a single school for their overall awesomeness as humans.  For the 3rd year in a row, Loch Raven walked away with the Esprit de Corps award, and it was well-earned! The students shared maturity, respect, positivity, and love wherever they went.  Whether in the performance venue, walking around the park, or cheering on other schools who won awards over us, the directors of the event noticed something wonderful in our students.  Three different states over three different years have all seen this in our students and Ms. Jacobs thinks it captures perfectly what Loch Raven is fortunate to see every day.

If you see these student, please congratulate them on an excellent weekend!
