Guidance |
The goal of the guidance program is to help
each student strive to realize her/his potential as a student and
as a person. Counselors help individual students manage the challenges
and pressures of their adolescent years by individual and/or group
counseling and guidance.
Guidance programs include Peer Mediation,
Peer Helpers, The Lookout (a guidance newsletter), coordination
of visits by college admissions personnel, coordination of visits
by military recruiters, college planning nights for parents, PSAT,
SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement Testing, a financial aid night for
parents, computer-assisted college and career search programs, a
Career Day, local college fairs, and a biweekly scholarship program.
Peer Helpers are trained students who work
with the Guidance Office to help students with personal and social
concerns. Peer Helpers are available to visit middle schools and
do classroom presentations on a variety of topics of interest to
Loch Raven students.
Peer Mediators are
well-trained students who help other students work out their conflicts.
Peer mediators receive referrals from teachers, counselors, and
assistant principals. They work in the guidance office in close
proximity to their moderator in case of emergency.
