School to Career |
The School to Career department offers two programs that benefit upper classman by providing them with experience in the world of work. School to Career students develop attitudes and skills necessary for today’s world of work in a structured environment, sample a career without the pressures and commitments of full-time employment, and network with people who can be helpful in developing a career
The Internship program is designed for college bound students who would like to gain skills in a specific career. The benefits are many, but specifically to help students learn if this is the career for them and then to gain experience in developing the skills, knowledge and contacts for personal success. Interns sample a career by going off campus to a workplace setting with an assigned mentor for two periods a day. Interns attend bi-weekly seminars, establish a portfolio, maintain a journal and complete an internship project. Internships are offered for Honors or Gifted and Talented credit.
The Diversified Occupations program requires students to take a course entitled Occupational Preparation. This standard one credit course helps students develop workplace readiness skills and relates school-based to work-based learning. In the afternoon, students earn one to three standard credits in Work Experience by working off campus in the occupation of their choice.
Students must apply for and be accepted into these programs. In order to be considered for the Work Experience or Internship program, students must complete an application.
